The music in this album was written between 2012 and 2017. I often drew inspiration from other musicians and sounds, including other projects that I was involved in during this time. Other sources of inspiration were books and films, two of my strongest passions. It took me too long to record this album, and by the time I collected all the compositions, there was simply too much music for a single album. However, as the creative process unfolded I realized that there was a strong thread connecting all the pieces, and I decided to follow that path. The result is a double album that revolves around the topic of Time in its many faces (and I feel now that I could spend the rest of my life making music about it). Kronos and Penélope are one and the same, but somehow offer different outlooks on the subject of Time.

I wanted to make an album that could be played many times and still offer something new to the attentive listener. I tried to achieve that by overdubbing layers of sound in some of the pieces, which helped create a more complex sound than that of a single take recorded by the band. One other thing I tried was to explore internal cross-references: throughout the album, several ideas appear repeatedly, as if to bind the music together. At the same time, I wanted to make as intense, diverse and wide-ranging an album as I possible could. So, I included music that ranges from free improvisation to fully scored pieces, songs with a folksy feel, swingy compositions, and more. Also, the instrumentation throughout the album varies dramatically, and that gave me ways to explore very different textures and moods. At the same time, it was very important to me that the album sounded fluent and somehow easy to the ear. A tremendous undertaking, at best. I hope I have succeeded in a small way.
